Approx Jewish Students on campus - 20+

The UEA J-Soc is a small, warm and friendly community open to all students attending university in East Anglia. We host a variety of events throughout the academic year including drinking socials, dinner at restaurants and picnic lunch get togethers. We hosted our first official Friday night Shabbat dinner last year, and are planning to make it a more regular thing. We’re also planning some lunch and learns, as well as events to celebrate Jewish holidays.

President 2022/23: Samantha Lewkowicz

What is your favourite Jsoc event that you’ve attended?

I really enjoyed the barbeque that we had at the end of the summer term. We booked a barbeque by the UEA lake, the sun was shining, and lots of people came. Several people brought different food and drinks, including some homemade Israeli salad (one of my fave things about Jsoc events…), and we all had a good laugh.

Is kosher food or accommodation available at the UEA?

Kosher accommodation isn’t, but there are some places to buy kosher food. Other than the popular brands that carry a kosher stamp, the Earlham Waitrose, a short walk from campus, sells specialist kosher foods. It’s where I got an obscene amount of matzo and pickles for Pesach, so much that I’m pretty much set for next year.
