Jewish Students Mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2024

Jewish students across the UK and Ireland have held memorial events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2024.

Jewish students across the UK and Ireland have held memorial events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2024.

Both Jewish students and Jewish Societies (JSocs) have held events including candle lightings, survivor talks, memorial services, public exhibitions and more to commemorate the Holocaust on their campuses.

Public buildings on campuses – including Durham castle and Main House in Bath (both pictured) - were also lit with purple lighting in line with the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust’s “Light The Darkness” campaign.

UJS and JSocs invited Students’ Unions to host a Holocaust Memorial Day exhibition in their public spaces as part of commemoration events.

Jewish students and JSocs will continue to host further Holocaust Memorial events in the coming weeks.

Dora Hirsh, UJS Sabbatical Officer for Holocaust Education, said:

“Jewish students have pulled together to create interesting and innovative events and materials to educate others at their universities about the horrors of the Holocaust and commemorate the victims. At a time when antisemitism is rampant, Jewish students continue to be active in the issues that matter to them.”
